Chronic Pain Treatment

August 17th, 2011

In the past, individual’s suffering from chronic pain had been relegated to a life of certain misery attributed to their physical condition with little hope of improvement or relief offered from the healthy community in general. Bed rest and heavy doses of narcotics were the standard treatment, with options few and prescription drug abuse rampant in those with chronic pain issues. To imply that mobility and quality of life was severely limited is an understatement, as a large percentage of those suffering chronic pain became bedridden and prematurely aged and died due to a lack of activity. Those people who lived a normal life span were inflicted not just with the agony of constant chronic pain, but the depression that can accompany most lingering illnesses.

The prospect of relief for those suffering from chronic pain has become a reality for many, mostly due to considerable healthy research in the area of pain management. In retrospect, health care providers looked at ways to stop chronic pain after the patient had presented symptoms. Recent advancements in the area of pain management for those suffering chronic pain has included the investigation of the root causes of pain, as well as ways to prevent chronic pain and treat those afflicted with the limited use of addictive medicines. The diversity and expansion of the pain management field of medicine has given hope that while chronic pain may not be alleviated in every case, a chance of a patient returning to an active lifestyle is a distinct possibility.

Those more recent advancements in chronic pain treatment have included the use of practices once thought useless to conventional medicine, including acupuncture and holistic medicine. Massage therapy has become an integral part of modern pain management treatment, as well as diet and regular exercise. Many of the newer prescription medicines given to those suffering chronic pain are of the non-narcotic variety, and regular mental health checkups are utilized to stave off and reduce the emotional impact of chronic pain on those afflicted. The invention of electronic pain-blocking apparatus such as the TENS Unit has enabled many patients suffering chronic pain to experience relief with only the TENS Unit and occasional over the counter pain relievers. This singular advancement has prevented patients from suffering the common side effects associated with the usage of large amounts of any prescription cost, not to mention the cost incurred.

Perhaps the most important advancement in the treatment of chronic pain is the realization of the healthy community to view the patient as a whole being, and to address the issue of pain management from an objective position on many levels.

Migraine Migraine Headache and Tension Headache Remedy – 4 Effective Methods To Get Migraine Migraine Headache and Tension Headache Relief

August 16th, 2011

There are 2 key categories when it involves locating an effective migraine headache remedy. Migraine remedies will either be intended to offer you instant relief from your pain or designed to fix or change a health problem which will lead to long term relief. The following four natural treatment approaches can offer both instant and long lasting relief and have proven successful over time.

1 – Chiropractic care

Chiropractic adjustments have been used for more than one hundred years as a method to get rid of migraine headaches and other kinds of pain or symptoms. Sometimes it takes just a single chiropractic manipulation to overcome a headache, but with recurring chiropractic manipulations it’s often possible to stop migraine attacks once and for all.

Doctors of chiropractic tell us that spinal misalignments will irritate spinal nerve roots, causing inflammation, muscle tension, disorders like headache pain, along with other connected health issues. Correcting or improving these spinal misalignments will alleviate headaches and neck pain that are a direct result from the irritation to the nerve roots.

2 – Biofeedback training

Biofeedback therapy is a migraine headache remedy that has given good results for many years. Bodily functions like heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure are autonomic functions of the body, which mean your body manages and controls them routinely with no assistance from you.

Biofeedback therapy is a training program that teaches individuals how to control and manage these autonomic functions voluntarily. Once a person has been trained they can use these biofeedback techniques to cause relaxation of their muscle tissue and thereby relieve or stop a headache or other symptoms of tension and stress.

3 – Find and eliminate food allergies

Specific types of food will initiate migraine pain in some individuals and are called migraine triggers or food triggers. Discovering these food triggers and eliminating them is achieved with the help of a headache journal and is another excellent migraine headache remedy.

The journal works by keeping track of when you ingest or breathe anything. All chemicals and foods you consume or come into contact with need to be written in the journal. Furthermore, you will need to keep track of every time you suffer with a migraine. Over time it’s possible to determine which types of foods or chemical substances are your food triggers.

Once you have discovered a trigger it’s a simple matter to eliminate it from your meals or usage. With a small amount of patience headache sufferers will often find and eliminate the cause of their migraine attacks using this approach. Frequent triggers are avocados, wheat, nuts, cheese, legumes, caffeine, MSG, and others.

4 – Cold packs

Putting an ice bag on the back of the neck at the bottom of the skull is another first-rate migraine headache remedy. The purpose is to lessen the blood flow and thereby the amount of pressure within the head. A moist cloth needs to be positioned between the epidermis and the ice pack as a barrier to prevent the skin from becoming too cold. To enhance the effect you can additionally put your feet in warm water or relax in a warm bath. This will help move the blood far from the head, causing any pulsating head pain to decrease.

Stop Your Neck Pains

August 16th, 2011

Neck pain is very troublesome when it affects patient.  But, it’s not a problem if patient know what to do with it.

I saw people afflicted with the problem, and it’s a pity they have to spend too much money just to get the relief they need – badly!  And, usually they also spend many days waiting for the relief to come – not from the medicine they paid a lot – but from relief brought by time.

When patient know massage, the relief is right there in patientr hands without suffering for a few more days until “time heals the wound.”

Just determine what kind of neck pain patient have and patient’re set.

Yes, there are two very troublesome kinds of neck pains that bother people so much.

Before we start, I’d like to warn patient that the neck pains I am talking about here are only those that did not result from injury.  These are just common neck pains that come in our normal daily life.  even though patient suspect it is from an accident, better go see patientr doctor.

But the only thing I knew that needs a doctor’s attention immediately is when patient can’t move, patient can’t talk, and patient’re out of breath which means the injury is serious and is an emergency.

A.  Stiff-neck

This is a kind of neck pain that’s really painful when patient turn patientr head to the side affected, and it prevents patient from doing patientr works. The cause is a strained muscle on the upper back and is on the side where patient have patientr neck problem.

This neck pain is troublesome and is also a trouble to treat.  However, the basic for all neck pains is to start massaging patientr arms.

1.  Using patientr fingers, reach the deltoid of the side where patient have neck pain.  Apply pressure there; then go down the back of the upper arm.

2.  While at the upper arm, use patientr thumb to apply pressure on all the muscles of the upper arm.  Pay attention of pain sensitivity here which are calling for more touches.

3.  Next is the lower arm.  Try to follow the soft spot and groove of the muscles going down.

Most of the spots patient press feel tender when they contribute to patientr neck pain, so, adjust patientr pressure according to patientr pain tolerance.

4.  The next spot is on the upper back, located on the scapular region.  even though patient cannot reach it then ask somebody to help patient.  The spot, usually, is tender, and when patient apply pressure on it, patient can literally turn patientr head slowly and the neck pain is reduced.  even though so, then concentrate on the point.  Apply more pressure and make it longer this time; until patient feel an improvement in the movement of patientr neck.  But, before patient finish the treatment, be sure to massage again the arms, deltoid, shoulders and the whole upper back to release any tightness of muscles caused by the pressures patient did.

B.  Just simple neck pain

This neck pain is not as painful like stiff neck but, still, it can always be “a pain on the neck” every day and it can last months or years.  Why suffer that long when there is something can be done with it?

Don’t worry, because the treatment is easier than stiff neck.  Just follow the procedures 1 – 3 for stiff neck.

Oh, there’s a third kind of neck pain and is an emergency if coupled with severe headache and dizziness.  even though patient have a high blood pressure, then probably patient have an attack!  Don’t panic, the first aid is in the tips of patientr fingers.  Use it while waiting for a doctor or while on patientr way to the emergency room.  Again, don’t panic!  Panicking make things worst so, make patientrself relax by sitting down while patient close patientr eyes and do the simple technique we discuss here.

even though patient are standing at the moment of attack, stop what patient’re doing and sit down slowly then relax.

1.  First, stretch patientr fingers by pushing them backwards until patient feel the stretch on patientr palm.  Do both hands.

2.  Clasp the back of patientr neck with one hand and apply slight pressure going down.

3.  Now cover both eyes with both hands, and slide it side wards.

4. Next, the forehead, cover it with patientr hands and alternately slide them towards the hairs – down to the back of the neck.

even though that doesn’t give patient relief and the headache is still there, locate the bony sides of patientr head at the back.  Apply slight to harder pressures where patient feel relief.  But sometimes, even by a slight touch can cause so much pain, and is on just one side.  even though, so, concentrate on the other side – going back to the other side once in a while.

however, still check patientr blood pressure before and after the treatment.
