How should I approach a doctor to prescribe me painkillers? I’ve had chronic pain in my back, hips, knees, and wrists for about 3 years now. In addition I was diagnosed with CMT when I was a child. I’ve taken just about everything other than narcotics ( pain patches, anti-inflammatory medicine, various high-doses of acetaminophen and ibuprofen, etc etc.) But when I asked my doctor about trying a painkiller, he told me I was just looking to get high, and I have no real business taking them. Now, I can understand that a pain management doctor will see his/her fair share of junkies, but I had been seeing him for months prior to this, and it was the first time I mentioned it. Needless to say I will NOT be seeing that doctor again, but I will still need to address my pain. So, when I do see another doctor, how should I go about getting something that actually works?
