I’ve always been pretty healthy so I’ve not spent much of my life in need of medical attention. Unfortunately it has made me completely lost though, when it comes to knowing what to do when a situation arises. I am worried about my girlfriend who has had a persistent cough for about a month now. She does not have health insurance and she’s not a citizen so she’s about as unfamiliar with the medical industry here as I am. I would like to take her to a doctor if it continues just to be safe. But I do not even know where to start. There are so many different places: clinics, medical centers, hospitals, etc… and I just don’t know what the difference is. Can anyone tell where to start, or where (specifically) I should take her to just get a cough checked out and not pay through the nose? What is the difference between all those places?
