Middle School Bullying Stopped if You Just Keep Trying!

December 11th, 2010
Paula McCoach asked:

So, one of your stop bullying techniques has only made a dent in making the hardcore bully stop.

Well, try another.

1. Your first school bully stopping technique was to talk to the bully, and he/she stopped briefly. Continue this technique as long as the victim keeps reporting the bullying.

2. But, just to be sure, add parent contact to your bag of tricks with this school bully. Once you have enough reports, some of which should be from teachers, contact the parent and get them involved in putting a stop to the bullying.

3. Thirdly, with one particular bully, once we got the parent involved, she signed him up for our in-school counseling program run by out County Health Department.

4. He was doing better but was still a little rough around the edges in terms of bothering others, so we assigned him a mentor from Bully Zapper Mentor program.

5. He was also receiving special education services and small group instruction and was closely monitored by several teachers and educational assistants – this helped our bully victims as well.

6. Class meeting on bullying and teasing were also presented to this student as well as all our middle school students in social studies classes once a quarter.

7. Finally, several of his bully victims filled out peer mediation forms, so he participated in coming up with solutions to stop bullying in these small group sessions.

By eighth grade, he had a fairly good year with decent grades and minimal interventions. With most bullies one technique will not do the trick.

Warning On Eating Raw Oysters Has Been Expanded For Texans

December 7th, 2010
Patt Carpenter asked:

For those individuals in Dallas, Houston and elsewhere in Texas who enjoy eating raw seafood such as oysters, the federal Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has a warning for you. Basically, know where you are getting your favorite aphrodisiac from. The FDA is advising that you not eat raw oysters harvested from the southern tip of Hood Canal in Washington State because of a food-borne illness outbreak caused by Vibrio parahaemolyticus bacteria. This warning follows an earlier outbreak and includes an August 10, 2007 warning about oysters harvested from Hood Canal.

The symptoms of this particular illness — vibriosis — includes watery diarrhea, and most often includes abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting, fever, and chills. These symptoms often occur within 24 hours of eating the oysters and should not last more than three days. Severe symptoms are rare and happen mostly in people that suffer from a weakened immune system. Individuals in Texas who believe they have experienced these symptoms after consuming raw oysters should talk to their doctors as well as call the local health department.

The oysters harvested from growing area 5 in Hood Canal, from July 31, 2007 through August 20, 2007, have sickened at least six people in Washington State. Records indicate that raw oysters from that area were distributed to California, Colorado, Idaho, New York, Oregon, Utah, Texas, Washington State, and British Columbia (Canada).

The Washington State Department of Health recently shut down the growing area associated with the illness. It has also asked commercial oyster harvesters and dealers who got oysters from this area to insist on a recall.

Individuals who have recently purchased oysters should check with the place of purchase and ask if they were harvested from the affected growing areas. This recall involves both shucked oysters and oyster in the shell, otherwise known as shell stock oysters.

If you have a weakened immune system, which includes individuals stricken with HIV/AIDS, chronic alcohol abuse, liver, stomach, or blood disorders, cancer, diabetes, or kidney disease, you should not eat raw oysters, no matter where they are harvested.

The FDA advises that individuals can continue to enjoy oysters in Texas and others states as long as the oysters are fully cooked. If purchasing, make sure to only select oysters with the shells closed. Shells that do not open during cooking should not be eaten. Also, remember to never let raw seafood come into contact with cooked food.

Watching what you eat, regardless of how great it tastes, can certainly affect your health, and eventually your wallet as well. Christian Living – Sex and the City – The Shocking Truth

December 3rd, 2010
James M. Brown asked:

The Shocking Truth Behind Sex And The City

Well the shocking truth is out. Sex And The City is not good for your health!

I must say I was NOT shocked by the Associated Press report of a New York City Health Department Survey, that showed 1 in 4 New Yorkers were infected with the sexually transmitted disease Genital Herpes.

While Hollywood seems to ignore the obvious troubles associated with the wanton pursuit of sex against the backdrop of the Nation’s most populous city, we are presented with a fashion extravaganza of feel good hype to numb our senses to the truth.

One thing is obvious, they cannot blame this epidemic on the Christian morality system that holds up a biblical world view that would virtually eliminate the transfer of the disease while giving a true vision of happiness and contentment in a monogamous relationship with the love of our youth.

But, in our society we continue to substitute the quick and easy for the slow but effective method. You know, the method that God has presented for our lives because HE understood what the alternatives really had in store for us. The lifestyle where sex followed marriage not the one where sex was an audition for ..marri..er… fun???

No our media tries to hide and mask the truth. Living a life build on Biblical morals, Christian morality, and Godly reverence is the real way to have Sex and Live In The City. The other way also has a foregone absolute outcome. “The wages of sin is death”.

Nonetheless the truth remains, there is a high cost for low living

Departmentalization of Insurance Companies

November 27th, 2010
Allison Ryan asked:

The company treasurer or controller may be a functional officer rather than an executive officer. The same thing may be true of the legal counsel. Often, functional officers are eventually elevated to the position of executive officers by promotion to a vice-presidency. Thus, although the office of legal counsel may not be recognized by the charter of the company as an executive office, the counsel may be made an executive officer by promotion to the position of “vice-president and legal counsel.”

In a small insurance company, just as in any small business, departmentalization may be theoretical; that is, employees may perform functions in several departments. Executives, especially, may have charge of several departments. In the large company, of course, the various territorial departments may be virtually companies within themselves, in that they may be staffed to perform every function necessary to that department without assistance from any other department.

A small company may have a tendency to be more trustworthy and less complicated, but a larger company is less likely to fold, and would probably be cheaper. But all companies are different, so it is up to you to decide which can provide the best life insurance.

There are at least five bases of departmentalization: functional, product, territorial, customer, and executive interest.

Functional departmentalization is based upon functions performed. Thus, there would be a legal department, an investment department, an agency department, an advertising department, a purchasing department, a claims department, an engineering department, and the like.

Product departmentalization determines the scope of a department by the type of product with which it deals. In an insurance company, there may be a life insurance department, an inland and ocean marine department, fire department, liability department, automobile department, accident and health department, and others.

Territorial departmentalization means the departments are determined by the territory over which they exercise jurisdiction. Thus, in a large insurance company, there may be an eastern department, a western department, and others. Most companies which do business outside their own country will have a foreign department. The foreign department may be further broken down, for instance, into a Latin American Department and a European Department.

Customer departmentalization establishes departments by the nature of the class of customers with which it deals. Customer departmentalization is often difficult to distinguish from product departmentalization, the two being sometimes virtually identical. In insurance home office operations, pure customer departmentalization, for example, will be found in a reinsurance department, which deals with sales to other insurance companies; a special risks department, which handles the large self-rated accounts; and a group department, often including salary savings and pension trusts, which sells only to employers and in the mass rather than to individual policy buyers.

An easy distinction would be a department that deals exclusively with life insurance rates without medical, versus a department that deals with life insurance rates that require an exam.

Finally, executive interest must be recognized as a very practical and frequent basis of departmentalization. Departments may be organized along the lines of the interest of any given executive or executives in the business, even though those interests may be somewhat diverse.

The bases of departmentalization vary from company to company. They also vary within any one company. Many of the departments of a company are organized along functional lines, although much use is made in the insurance business of product, customer, and territorial departments.
