October 23rd, 2011

Chiropractic is a kind of alternative treatment focusing in the structure and condition bones,

tissues, joints especially the spinal cord and how all of these are functioning. Chiropractic is

done for several reasons : adjusting the spine because of misalignments, to reduce low back pain, improve the function and movement of the injured part, support the body to heal itself naturally.

Today, Chiropractic is one of the the famous alternative treatment. The meaning of this treatment

is “treatment by hand” and this is exactly what Chiropractor does. They use their hands to treat their patients and every procedure is done manually like spine adjustments.

There are two types of Chiropractor, “straight” chiropractor and “mixed” chiropractor. “Straight” chiropractors treat headaches by manipulating the spine to correct subluxation and other imbalances while mixed chiropractic treatment for headaches is a combination of manipulation and other therapies,

focusing on reducing the tension in the neck muscles.

Chiropractors believe that :

– Every body part and movements are mutually connected to each other and that the body has a natural way of healing itself that can be improved through the help of a Chiropractor.

– When body parts and systems are synchronized, patients can expect to have a healthier body.

– A healthy nervous system, particularly the spine, is the key to a healthy body. The spinal cord carries information throughout the body and is responsible for all bodily functions including voluntary movements (such as walking) and involuntary functions (such as breathing). When systems of the body are in balance, it is called homeostasis. Bones, muscles and nerve disorders can disrupt homeostasis and increase the risk of disease and other health problems.

Chiropractor is the health professional of Chiropractic, they believe that a healthy body must have a healthy spine.  Chiropractors treat every patient based on the spinal condition. They are responsible in giving advice for improvement and inform patients what they will go through before undergoing  a spinal adjustment. They are not just ordinary individuals, Chiropractors are professionals and highly trained on this field. Patients must ask for a consultation, Chiropractors will assess the condition of the patient, healthy tests are required and based on the results a personalized treatment plan will be developed. This is a more effective way rather than just prescribing medicines. It is designed especially for the patient and because it is according to the patient’s needs, healing is much faster. Identifying And Avoiding Migraine Triggers

October 22nd, 2011

Emotional stress can certainly provoke a migraine headache, and missing meals may cause headache in some people, probably due to lower blood sugar level. It is unlikely there will ever be a “cure” for migraines, but they can be controlled and their frequency and severity reduced. This may mean a change to a more relaxed lifestyle as well as avoiding trigger factors.

Common triggers

Hormones: for many women, falling estrogen levels play the biggest role, so a migraine is more likely to strike around the start of a period. Migraine Headache and Tension Headaches occur before r during menstruation in about 60% of female patients.

Food: chocolate and age cheeses such as cheddar, brie and camembert are believed to be triggers and some people have problems with processed meats and foods with taste enhancers like monosodium glutamate (MSG).

Alcohol: alcohol dilates vessels and may contribute to migraine, but the culprit could also be the impurities from fermentation.  Found in red wine. Tension-type headache is often relieved by alcohol; vascular headaches are almost invariably made worse. The reason for this is that alcohol is a dilator of blood vessels and the pain of migraine arises from vessels that are already dilated.

Caffeine: It’s both a treatment and a trigger. Many migraine treatments, such as Cafergot, contain caffeine, which constricts painful blood vessels. But caffeine withdrawal and overuse can cause pain.

Environment: Humidity, extreme heat or cold, and changes in weather, temperature or barometric pressure may be triggers, along with bright or flashing lights, perfumes or odours, and changes in altitude.

Tension: You may have an episode during or after a stressful situation. There are some people who have ‘letdown’ migraines, so it’s the release of stress that triggers their migraines.

All about Ocular Migraines

October 19th, 2011

If patient’ve had this sensation before, then patient probably know what’s coming.  It’s migraine time.  For the next several hours patient’re going to be in bed with a pillow over patientr eyes to block out the light and praying patientr kids don’t come screaming in and bang on the bed because patient’re sure patient just might throw up if they do.

Migraines come in all shapes and sizes and this an ocular migraine.  Did patient know that patient can have an ocular migraine? Ocular means just what patient think it means-affecting patientr eyes in some manner  It might not hurt as much as a full-blown migraine that causes patient to be photo-sensitive (light hurts patient) but it can be frightening if patient’ve never experienced one before.  Those who suffer from an ocular migraine say it’s like having Christmas lights flashing in their eyes. Auras generally last 5 to 20 minutes and can give patient things like vertigo (motion sickness or dizziness), imbalance, confusion or numbness; but most auras consist of visual disturbances such as partial vision loss, the appearance of “special effects” and distortion of objects. Occasionally the visual effects are stunning, from flashing lights, complex color patterns and shapes (e.g., triangles and dots) to seeing floaters in patientr eyes. A floater is when they see tiny objects appearing to float across their eyes.   An individual might also see shimmering or zig zag lines in the peripheral vision and blurriness in central vision.

This obviously interferes with a person’s normal daily routine.  If patient can’t see well, patient can’t work and patient most certainly cannot drive.

Another kind of migraine occurs with an aura, but it only happens to one eye.  Patients report that their vision is like looking through watery glass, or it has pieces or chunks missing from their visual field.  Some say it’s as though they’re looking at an old television with very poor reception.

Although it’s frightening, these ocular disturbances do not cause any permanent damage to a person’s vision and these auras are generally followed by a migraine.

If patient have an ocular migraine, or aura or a visual disturbance of any kind, patient need to see patientr doctor to rule out any other more dangerous problems that may be causing patientr auras.
